Anime is taking the world by storm...

Anime is a Japanese style of animation that has, in the past few years, overtaken western animation popularity-wise.

Anime's main features include large eyes, exaggeration and fine detail. Anime has a deep storyline along with subplots and complex character development. All these factors make it an enjoyable form of animation.

ANIME: HISTORY

Anime started in the beginning of the 20th century. This was when western style animation was experimented by Japanese filmmakers. And soon later the first popular anime was released, Astroboy.

It was in the 70's that anime separated itself from its slightly western style and moved onto more unique genres. A great example of this is mecha, anime based on robots.

Anime in the 80's reached a high as it was introduced into mainstream Japan. This period saw the spawn of the highly recognisable series, Gundam.

The 1990's and 2000's saw the increased recognition of anime overseas. Anime that was very popular in these times included: Dragon Ball Z, Spirited Away, Pokemon and Ghost In The Shell.
